How Salt Lake Real Estate is Attracting Relocated Buyers

Named for the Great Salt Lake, Salt Lake County is the largest county in Utah and the 38th most populous county in the United States with a population of 1,034,989. The county is 808 square miles and 70 miles of that is water.
Utah is said to have the “greatest snow on earth.” The snow is known to be a soft powdery texture that comes from dry snow and is best for skiing. Dry snow is attributed to the low humidity in Salt Lake County. Utah is famous for its ski resorts; there are four in Salt Lake County, Snowbird, Alta, Solitude and Brighton. However Deer Valley, in Park City has consistently been names “Best Ski Resort” by Skiing magazine. The greatest snow on earth was the reason Utah hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics.  If you enjoy winter sports, than Salt Lake real estate is for you.

Alta Opening in 1939, and the other resorts following, was a major force in the economy after the decline of mining. All of the resorts in Utah add to the appeal for tourists. The Wasatch Mountains are also very popular in the summer, for hiking, biking, fishing and camping. The airport, gaining international status in 1960, also helped bring tourist to Salt Lake. Salt Lake County averages only 15 inches of precipitation annually, most in the spring and fall. The summers in the valley are very dry and you experience intense thunderstorms that light up the sky.  You can get up to 55 inches of snow in a year due to lake-effect; the weather is intensified by the warm water of the Great Salt Lake, which never freezes entirely due to the lakes high salinity.

There are five separate public school districts in Salt Lake County. Granite School District is the largest in the state. Salt Lake County consists of 16 cities, 6 townships, has 3 dance companies, 19 museums, 6 golf courses and 109 parks. While living in Salt Lake County you can watch Real Salt Lake soccer, the Utah Jazz, the ECHL Grizzles, and the Salt Lake Bees. Sports teams are in no shortage here. The suburbs have grown tremendously. Rapid residential growth has continued and because of it, the houses on the north and east bench go half way up the mountain. Hosting the 2002 Winter Olympic Games helped Salt Lake City and County improve the transportation throughout the valley. The addition of the light-rail known as TRAX was a big step to help rid the valley of traffic congestion. Transportation has become a major focus for the local government.
